The Federal Hockey League is interested in expanding in Winston-Salem. They will hold a "neutral site game" at the LJVM Annex (the lawnmower shed) on March 1. The game is a 7:05 p.m., Saturday game, featuring the Watertown Privateers against the Dayton Demonz. I love hockey and would love to see the sport return to Winston-Salem. This is a testing the waters for expansion game. That is official from the league. If attendance is strong, Winston-Salem could have minor league hockey in Fall 2014. Tell all of your friends who love hockey about this game and see if we can sell-out the Annex!

Tickets are only $10 and available right now! Call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000. If you're part of a group of 15 or more, ask about large group discounts. You can also contact the arena box office at 336-774-8880.

For those interested: The league's record for highest attendance is 3,116. Their teams have small arenas. The smallest seats 2,000. The worst attendance average by a Winston-Salem team was more than half of that, so they are very optimistic about Winston-Salem. Lets bring hockey back to Winston-Salem and then lets find a way to bring the team downtown to a new 4,000 seat arena.

Rumors going around are saying that Winston-Salem and the FHL are very close to an agreement. New team might be formed before March 1st #fhl

Apparently, things turned out well at the Annex.

I hope this happens, and there's more expansion because as it is, it's more an Ohio Valley league with W-S if the expansion goes though.

We need to show some WSTB love for our local Carolina Thunderbirds hockey team which won the Federal Hockey League championship recently. Great accomplishment considering this is their second year, and the city's first hockey title in 30 years. The team this year has been regarded as one of the best in the 9 year history of the league. The Thunderbirds recently had a celebration for their fans who are called "The Flock" and had attendance of around 800. The team has done well with Camel City. They sold out the 3,000 seat arena 12 times and drew almost 95,000 fans this season. The season ticket sales went from about 800 their first year to around 1,100 this year. The goal is to have 1,500 by the Fall.

CONGRATULATIONS to the team and to Winston-Salem for showing such strong support!!
