The home opener for the 2013 season of the Dash will be April 12 against the Carolina Mudcats.

Courtesy of Winston-Salem Monthly magazine, here are the accomplishments of the Dash organization in the new ballpark for the new thread: Since the $48 million ballpark opened in 2010, the facility won the Ballpark of the Year award from BaseballParks.com. The team was named Organization of the Year in 2010 by BallparkDigest.com.

Attendance over the first three seasons in the new ballpark totaled 930,244 with the one millionth fan coming on line sometime in the first quarter of the season ( the average annual attendance is 310,000 which is tops in the Carolina League). The Dash's record in the new ballpark is 134-77 which is tops in minor league ball. There have been 63 sellouts in the past three years where fans witnessed 203 home runs over the past three years.

Changes for the 2013 season include: having Foothills Brewing taking over as the main beer sponsor for Thirsty Thursdays. A total of 10 60 inch TV screens will be placed all along the concourse for better viewing of the action by the fans. Also new to the season will be the live broadcast of the Saturday night Dash games on ABC45 and My 48. They were previously available on tape delay.

This is great especially the Foothills Brewery thing - any word on the 5-story building?

I am looking forward to the 2013 season getting underway! It is nice to hear about the various changes and upgrades and I can't wait to see them in person.

Does anyone know if attendance has increased each year?

More factoids from the W-S Dash regarding attendance: The 2012 regular season record for the Dash was 87-51 which was the best mark in full season Minor League Baseball! :yahoo:

The Dash's ranking among all Advanced Class-A Baseball teams is first place since 2010. Our attendance ranks compared to higher classes of baseball results in the Dash outdrawing 15 Double A teams and 4 Triple A (Charlotte, Las Vegas, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Tucson)

13 former Dash players have been called up to the majors since the new ballpark opened

Wow - with less than 6,000 it was definitely standing room only.

I think there are 5,500 actual stadium seats. I don't think that includes the seats with the tables(?). The lawn area was also completely covered and there were LOTS of people standing all along the outfield wall around the entire ballpark. It was quite impressive!

From Camel City Dispatch:

Quote:
The city and the Winston-Salem Dash are in negotiations on a new 25-year lease on BB&T Ballpark that includes provisions to restructure the debt on the baseball ballpark to better protect the city’s investment. this marks a major investment in Winston-Salem by the White Sox organization and serious, astute investors in professional sports, including White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf. Mr. Reinsdorf not only owns the Chicago White Sox, he also owns the Bulls making him the only person to currently own two major league sports franchises. As part of this new lease structure, the Chicago White Sox would be part of a new ownership group of the Dash that will invest more than $7 million, which will be used in part to pay down the existing debt on the ballpark.

Public art finally coming to BB&T Ballpark! File this one under "ideas I first saw on WSTB"

Quote:
A bronze statue, “Home Run,” was created by life-long Winston-Salem resident and sculptor Tom Ogburn. About four years ago, Ogburn approached the Dash and City of Winston-Salem about creating a sculpture to be contributed to the city and placed at the entrance to BB&T Ballpark. Celebrating the youth of Winston-Salem, “Home Run” captures three children of different ages all stretching up in hopes of catching a high flying baseball.

(saw this in a press release, btw)
