How many employees did they have when Sara Lee built that massive 1990s Chicago-style suburban campus? I seem to remember, at some point, it was near 3,000 after multiple local office divisions from High Point and Winston-Salem merged into that single location, which was expanded. I bring this up because Hanes Brands is often shown as one of North Carolina's tech companies. Yes, tech. Would they be interested in downsizing into new office space in the Innovation Quarter's next phase? Their current 1990s building could be converted into senior housing or maybe a private school. It would be interesting to see Hanes Brands move into the Innovation Quarter, as an anchor tenant. They could have modern office space in a downtown setting, near highways and with high visibility. A building at the intersection of Future I-285 and Salem Parkway could provide walking trails and a pond, similar to amenities at their current building, while also adding all of the amenities of downtown and the next phase. That new headquarters could be an innovation center, developing the latest and greatest ideas in textiles/fashion, while also working with the surrounding universities. If a parking podium is used, it could increase the height and place both a Hanes Brands and Champion logo/signage over two highways with very high car counts, for advertising. It would also be interesting to create a Champion store in the Innovation Quarter, as part of the project. Similar to what Wrangler did in their city.
