Huge news for the Triangle (and the state, for that matter) - https://www.wral.com/apple-picks-triang ... /19646410/

As housing prices continue to rise and traffic continues to increase in the Triangle and Charlotte, I believe that the Triad will still continue to be an attractive landing spot for many. I’m proud of our state.

This is indeed wonderful news for the Triangle and for the state of North Carollina! Here's the coverage in the Triad Business Journal:

https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/ ... 3-000.html

And in today's New York Times:

Is Nike coming to RTP area? "The Nike move adds to a list of global companies tapping the Triangle so far in 2021. Already, tech giants Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) have announced they are entering the Triangle, shaking up the job, housing and office space markets in the process."

I found this announcement very interesting! RDU lands a new airline and a new international route, with connections to Europe. Read more at: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local ... 48362.html

From today's Triangle Biz Journal: "Giant U.S. chipmaker eyes Triangle for $40 billion-plus plant"...."A U.S. semiconductor company is scouting a Chatham County site for what could be among the largest economic development projects in North Carolina history. The project, if it comes to fruition, could have a capital investment of $40 billion or more with 5,000 to 10,000 jobs at full buildout. Multiple sources tell Triangle Business Journal the project is on an accelerated timeline"

W-S seems to be just outside of all large, major developments in NC and therefore is going to fall more and more behind although there was an article in today's Greensboro Business Journal https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2022/01/06/stories-to-watch-in-2022-davidson-county-hot-spot.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_14&cx_artPos=2#cxrecs_s indicating "Davidson County as Triad's New Hot Spot" - at least that's in the W-S MSA.

One of Downtown Raleigh's most distinctive highrises coming down . . .

Quote:
A downtown Raleigh landmark — a circular Holiday Inn hotel on Hillsborough Street — could soon make way for a new luxury hotel development, the owners of the property said Friday. The land owners, Tidal Real Estate Partners, told The News & Observer that they plan to replace the Holiday Inn with a 20-story tower that will include 179 hotel rooms, 350 apartments, and restaurant space. The plans also call for a parking deck with nearly 450 parking spaces.

Another interesting article today from the Triangle BJ: "Toyota-backed air taxi company considered NC for 1,600-job manufacturing plant" "The company considered five sites in the state: Global TransPark in Kinston, Burlington/Alamance Regional Airport, Raleigh Executive Jetport in Sanford, Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro and Smith-Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem." Joby is the Uber partner and they will be manufacturing in California: "SALINAS — Monterey County Workforce Development Board is partnering with Joby Aviation, a company developing an electric aircraft, to highlight open positions the company is seeking to fill across several departments at its growing facilities in both Marina and Santa Cruz" "https://kingcityrustler.com/monterey-county-workforce-development-board-partners-with-joby-aviation-to-help-fill-200-openings/" and "https://www.aviationtoday.com/2021/07/01/joby-preparing-2024-launch-electric-air-taxi/ I really hate to hear we lost this company.

This was in today's Triangle BJ: "North Carolina site picked for massive EV plant, sources say - An international carmaker has picked the Greater Triangle region for its first U.S. manufacturing site, a win that could mean as many as 13,000 jobs on buildout, multiple sources told Triangle Business Journal.

Sources identified the carmaker as Vietnamese firm VinFast and said the company plans to spend as much as $6.5 billion, and produce both electric batteries and vehicles at Chatham County's Triangle Innovation Point megasite, formerly known as the Moncure Megasite. The site was recently rejected by semiconductor giant Micron. VinFast plans to occupy more than 1,000 acres in Triangle Innovation Point, and at least three sources said an official announcement could come as early as next week."

The Carolina Corridor has really knocked a few out of the park recently. I think our biggest challenge, moving forward as a state, will not be jobs or attracting people to move here, but will be affordable housing.
