I still miss the Pier One that used to be on 1st near Cloverdale. It seems to currently be the Little Theater’s prop room.

Anyone have word from the street about the reason for World Market closing the W-S location? Is it sluggish sales? I do know that I have heard that Pier One is in trouble....that being nationwide, as a retailer. I also loved the Pier One store when it was at the older First Street location years ago. I don't think it has quite kept up with the retail trend.

Not sure about why this specific World Market is closing, but Bed, Bath and Beyond (which owns World Market) is closing 60 stores nationwide—40 BBBs and 20 of their other brands: buy buy baby, World Market, and Harmon Face Value (which I’ve never heard of). https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatod ... 3847126002

A quick google search turns up a few other WM locations closing, including one in Columbia, SC.

Brick and mortar retail continues to be a tough gig.

Lauren and I liked World Market a few years ago, but haven't visited as much over the past two or three years. I don't think we visited the store since maybe 2018? (Remember that I live in a different state) Some of the items I liked... they quit selling them. The common craft beers they sell became available at many other locations, with those other locations having a bigger selection. Even Publix has an isle with foods labeled by the country they are imported from... and craft beer. That leaves furniture and home decor and a growing number of those items aren't really unique to that store. I guess they gained too much competition in recent years for nearly everything they have? When it was the only store to find many of those items, it was an awesome store, but when other stores on the same street had the same items, then they had to compete on selection and price and I guess they didn't do that very well?

I read on social media that the employees at World Market said rent went up 25% and so the decision was made to close. Employees were informed the day after Black Friday. I loved that World Market and am super bummed that they're closing!

If that's the case, a retailer can find cheaper rent....somewhere, if they want to be in a market.

High Point K&W closes

The restaurant at Westchester Commons closed without notice after Friday dinner service. It had operated since 1989 at that location.

That location seems like an out of the way site for a cafeteria. Should they reconsider a HP location, something up on Eastchester around Wendover.

The good news is that AMC upgraded & remodeled the Wynnsong on HMB and renamed it Hanes 12. I'm hoping another theatre chain will want to come into Winston and take over all or part of the Macy's space.

Not sure where to put this, but worth mentioning, I think. Last night, I saw a Texas Pete commercial on NATIONAL tv - I don’t recall ever seeing a Texas Pete commercial. This must good, right.
