Random references to a set of falls hidden away in the Innovation Quarter crossed from muted curiosity to a Sunday expedition, thanks to the recent posts in the Downtown Development thread. Smain was correct about their whereabouts, I'd say:

Actually it's in here: https://goo.gl/maps/qfUq8S3yFhNGdSFb7
Which correlates with the linked slideshow. I thought it was strange the slideshow doesn't even show the falls?
It's a no brainer that this area will be cleaned up eventually when a building or park space is developed. It's owned by WFIQ and in between WFIQ and WSSU.....

The Bath Branch emerges from underground south of the railway that crosses over Research Parkway:

A sunny day following the previous day's rains and storms gave me a chance to capture an increased but muddy cascade over the rocks:

I would imagine this is not an easy summer venture, thanks to all the kudzu, the snaky hiding places, and the steep ravine the branch flows through:

An interesting find and well worth the stroll from downtown to get there, if for no other reason than to see if the falls could be located.

This should be a beautiful park, whenever they finally reach this phase! A 12 foot / 3.7 metre waterfall in a rocky gorge and the way it's stretched-out! Someone please build an observation bridge and seating areas!

Thank you for photographing this!

Wow, just wow!

Someone call the man with the goats (who the city has employed at Quarry Park) to take care of that kudzu, and let's get started!!

Have you ever asked... What is inside that tunnel?

I found the answer...

I found it interesting enough to share. The materials used to build the vault under the railroad (likely from around 1910?), how the Innovation Quarter water feature spills into this tunnel, and the opening on the other side. I will admit I wanted to know what was on the side where it meets the big water feature and... wow!

That is amazing. What stream feeds the water feature? I say we uncover it and create a river walk. :D
