File this under great things you haven't heard about!
Ideas are being presented for the site between Corpening Plaza and One Salem Tower. It's being called Urban Link and Virginia Tech is involved. Awesome! It's always great to see university students working on projects in downtown Winston-Salem. This (the next young professionals) is the crowd we want to design our city for and they should have a major role in helping decide what we do next. Becoming involved also helps to create a bond with the city too. Thank you to Brian Kubecki for helping to make this happen. Hopefully, something visioned here will move beyond a vision and can become reality. This is actually something we need to work on. This area could connect downtown to Old Salem and West Salem. At present, the expressway is separating downtown from these two places and we need to find ways to link them together again.

Among the ideas is an amphitheatre:

Bridges: (pedestrian and bike connections over an expressway is a great idea)

A Park With Smaller Bridges:

Wind Energy? This city could build on it's environmentally friendly image with this! I think this is better than Creative Corridors' ideas!

A wind tower?

Sports Center anyone?

From the same proposal as the two images above:

This is just a sample of the ideas. There are more images on the links under the photographs posted.

All seemingly good ideas except probably the so-called sports center because as passionate as some are, it's too oriented to specific individuals (and immho not attractive). I especially like the wind thing.

It would be great to rejuvenate the strollway through that section of downtown to more seamlessly tie the Central Bus. District to the southern/Old Salem portion of downtown together. I would like to see the US Bankruptcy Courts Bldg. demolished and re-purposed to parkland. With the Children's Museum nearby, perhaps a focus a children's play with incorporation of some of the ideas apparently coming out of the new park going in that city between Winston & Burlington. The bankruptcy courts could be relocated to the Ward Federal Building in the space that is currently occupied by the VA offices. Have the VA offices moved to the Wells Fargo Center or Winston Tower to fill up the vacancies in those buildings.
