In case you saw reports of her death today, but didn't know who she was. May her memory be a blessing. Her buildings sure are. . . .

I'm as traditionalist as it comes. Jefferson is my national hero. But I rather like Hadid's cutting edge designs....they are not always what one would have expected in a project, but I have often wished Winston-Salem had a building (or two) that pushed the limits as a contrast to the RJ Reynold's Tower or the Wachovia tower. Especially on a project such as the central library. The structural boldness of the new One World Trade Transportation Center by Santiago Calatrava against the new One World Trade Tower in lower Manhattan is exciting. You can't get a clear sense of it unless you see it for real.

On another note, I'd like to see some of the new construction in the WFIQ use glass on the exterior, or use escalators on the interiors that are visible from the exterior like the C&D Building in High Point. Or totally unusual shapes in the rooflines that are truly exciting and forward thinking.

Hadid's designs are thought provoking.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite "modern" architects. Her work was truly unique and she will be missed. Does anyone know if the beautiful proposed skyscraper she designed for Miami was built?

World's first rotating skyscraper . . . (hint: it's not being built in the United States . . . of course.):
